Money Map Game

Make learning about finance fun with our Money Map game! Spend time together while teaching your kids how money works in a way they will enjoy.

PARENTS, TEACHERS & CARERS - Take some time to prepare this game before starting with the little ones - so once they sit down to play you have everything ready to go.

Objective:

Learn how to budget for education and childcare by creating a fun visual money map with your child. This activity will help you both understand where money comes from and where it goes.

Materials Needed:

• Large poster board or paper • Markers or colored pencils • Stickers or post-it notes (optional for added fun!)

How to Play

1. Set Up Your Board:

Draw a vertical line down the middle of the poster board.Label the left side “Money Sources” and the right side “Expenses.”

2. List Money Sources:

On the left side, write down where money comes from, such as:• Allowance• Extra chores• Gifts• Savings• Scholarships• Loans• Credit card rewards• Dental rewards• 529 plan• Roth IRAFeel free to add your own money sources!

3. Identify Expenses:

On the right side, list typical education and childcare expenses, like:• School tuition• Textbooks• Supplies• Lunch money• After-school programs• Childcare• Tutoring• Educational apps• Field trips• Uniforms

4. Connect the Dots:

Use different colors to draw lines from each expense to its source of funding. Some expenses may have more than one source!

5. Talk It Over:

As you draw the connections, chat with your child about how each expense is paid for. It’s a great chance to teach them about budgeting and financial planning.

6. Review Your Map:

Once the map is done, go over it together. Ask your child what they found surprising or interesting about how money is spent on their education and care!
